Engagement Photos... should you include them in your package?
It's a question that comes up at most wedding photography consultations... have you thought about it?

An engagement session serves a few purposes. Of course you'll obviously get some really fun, candid and romantic images of the two of you in an outfit you love to wear, feeling comfortable, getting used to having your photo taken.
Many couples feel like this is the biggest advantage... you work with your photographer before the big day, getting to know how they are behind that big, bad lens. Photographers like it too... we get to know you a little bit, gather an insight into your personalities and comfort level having your photo taken.

With the images, I like to put together a guest book like the one shown below:

You can use the images for things like slide-shows, invitations, save-the-date cards, you name it.

The great thing about locations for engagement photos is that you can do them ANYWHERE! Many couples choose to shoot somewhere entirely different from the setting their wedding photos will be done in, it's a great way to vary the look of your professional photos.

Check out some samples:
Props are awesome!

If you love the cherry blossoms...

Or you just want to wander a really cool area...

My engagement packages for 2009 are $225... check out the website to see the details!

2008 ends and 2009 begins...
Well, this isn't exactly a year-in-review post. It's sort of my good-bye to a wonderful 2008 and hello to 2009 which is shaping up to be another fantastic year. Along the way I'm sharing some of the images from 2008 that didn't make it into my regular postings... images that make me laugh, I hope you enjoy them too. They're in no particular order, it's New Year's Day and I'm not feeling the need to organize them as such!

Once again I loved shooting my client's weddings and I feel lucky to have such awesome people invite me into their lives for a while. I really do have some amazing clients. Compassionate, thoughtful, and of course fun are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of the couples I've worked with this year.

Nadine is a huge fan of 'Twilight'.. which I found out after the wedding. Hmmmmm.......

The funniest MC this year, hands-down. I love the look on the face of the girl who looks like she's thinking "Did he really just say that?!" Yes, he did. This guy greeted most people with a certain finger, because apparently that's how they roll in Saskatchewan. My best friend just moved to Saskatoon... I wonder what sort of greeting I'll get when I see her next?

Mark & Steph hosted a pizza party the evening before their wedding in Tuscany. This was the impromptu a cappella singing of 'O Sole Mio' by a certain Uncle...

Lindsay's uncle owns this beautiful GT-500 and he spent the entire morning of the wedding waxing it to perfection... so she thought he would get a kick out of seeing his car in a few photos... but he probably won't be too impressed with the smooches on the perfectly clean window...

This one did make the blog post after the wedding but I still love the looks on their faces as Mark's ring refused to go on his finger on the hottest day in July.
Trevor and Kathryn's wedding was full of dancing... but I'm not sure what you call this move...
I had so much fun at Lara and Robin's wedding... and I love the fingers in the photo, it's too funny to crop out!
Sorry Mic... I think you can take it... I do believe I told you this would end up on my blog at some point... Mic was carrying Jenn's lipgloss in his pocket, he had it before the ceremony (good planning!) and he couldn't resist... I love the classic 'checking the lipstick in the mirror' shot featuring the groom this time!

The guy who would duck in front of my lens each time he walked by...
In November I was honoured to photograph the Garfield Weston Awards for Excellence in Education hosted by The Fraser Institute. Goby Catt kept the crowd entertained and I still start singing "Get Your Kicks on Route 66" each time I see this set of photos...

again in Tuscany at Mark & Steph's wedding... I wonder what was being said here!?

When I finished shooting baby Elena's photos daddy wanted a turn with my camera and I love the outcome...

There's always somebody at every wedding who's a camera geek like me... but this guy took it to a whole new level! When you take photos of me at a wedding (or a video!) I take photos of you too...

Ian looking lovely with the bridal umbrella and bouquet

Thanks again to all of my amazing 2008 clients for making it a memorable year. I'm stoked to begin my 2009 wedding season very soon in February up at Westwood Plateau along with many more great venues and fabulous couples to keep me busy throughout the year.

Peace, health and happiness to you all,
Jennifer
